Materials I'm using to help me learn to draw
so I can teach Liam
Drawing with Children
Draw Write Now

Liam wants to be able to draw Peter
Rabbit's father and Mr. McGregor for a book
that he and I are going to do together. He
said, 'I am going to be the illustrator and you
are going to be the author. But you need to
learn how to write those small letters and I
need to learn how to draw Peter Rabbit's
father first.'

The theory is that kids draw their own
non-representational drawings until about
age 8 but can be taught with guided
instruction to draw objects that actually
look like what they intend. This gives them
confidence that they are 'good' at drawing
and encourages them to express themselves
because they are satisfied with their results.
